currently reading : THE BOOK THIEF

As indicated at the back of the book;

the novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a young foster girl living outside of Munich in Nazi Germany. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist – books. Soon she is stealing books from Nazi book-burnings, the mayor’s wife’s library, wherever they are to be found.

With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, Liesel learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids, as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

The synopsis is quite interesting and it prompted me to buy the book last November. However, I still haven’t finished the book and it’s already February! The book’s pace is quite slow and for me who loves reading fast-paced books this one kinda bored me. Hopefully I can get to the part where the story builds up so I can get more into it, particularly since I got so many good reviews on this book from fellow bookworms.

  1. I read the first chapter of this book and put it back down again. I just couldn’t get into the narration of it! They did just announce that they are making it into a movie, so maybe it will be one of those rare books where I enjoy the movie more.

  2. This book sounds like its a good story but by your description of what you have read so far it might take a while to read to get into the actual story of the book.
    I’m reading life of pi at the moment and I have exactly the same problem, I am on chapter 12 I think and I am still stuck as to what the story line is, I know about the main character, but the plot of the story is really unclear, I am going to pursue with it though and read it to the end.

    1. You’re reading Life of Pi? I wanted to read that too but after reading a few sentences from the first chapter, it made me rethink if I should buy it yet. And since I haven’t finished the Book Thief I thought maybe I’ll buy it some other time.
