FEB Day 17 : What do I want to learn?

A lot of things really, but mostly I want to learn a new language. I guess right off the bat that’s what I first thought of among the long list of things I want to learn. There’s a certain fulfillment I get when I learn a new language or at least when I’m able to understand foreign words when I hear them. Just being able to pronounce languages correctly makes me proud of myself already. 😀

I remember, because I aim of going to Japan someday, how I tried to self-learn Nihongo and even bought a Japanese two-way dictionary containing different phrases for specific situations that you can use to properly communicate with the locals. And because I was watching a lot of jdoramas and anime at that time, it helped me in learning how to pronounce words as correctly as I can without much difficulty.

Now that I’m an expat here in Qatar, I did thought of learning at least basic Arabic. I admit it was very hard for me, since my heart was not fully into it, but knowing that I live here and my profession puts me in front of locals and the arab speaking community on a daily basis, I know that I should try harder to learn.

Anyway, I’m ending this post with this video.

FEB Day 16 : An important quote

As a sentimental person, I go “aawww” for inspirational quotes (or just quotes in general), I have a lot of it in my repertoire. I have this habit of collecting quotes that demonstrates my inner thoughts and feelings.

I can think of several (meaning A LOT!) quotes that I would love to share with you guys, but as this won’t be enough in one post, I’ll be sharing just this one quote (out of a hundred) that inspired me and in which I try my best to incorporate in my daily life.

“If you measure your success by someone’s failure, then you are also a failure. If you aim to be like someone else, then you are limiting yourself on what you can truly achieve. But if you aim to improve on what you have already achieved, I consider you a winner because winners always want to do well in what they do without limiting themselves.” —  Anonymous

I regret to say that I don’t have an inkling as to who quoted above citation. I’ve read this quote years ago, sometime in 2009 or 2010, and I’m baffled why the name of whoever said above statement was not included with it. Either there really was no name on it or I just copy-pasted the quote and forgot to include the source. I did try googling it before finishing this post, but so far there were two persons appearing on my search. I’ll update as soon as I’m positive who it was.

Anyway, the quote was pretty self-explanatory – forthright and very clear. In life, we do feel unwanted jealousy towards others success and we feel defeated at times, which I think is normal. But what’s not normal is when our feelings of defeat cloud our minds and we thought that other people’s failure is equivalent to an achievement of our own, which is funny because you didn’t really accomplish anything.

This is something I’ve mostly observed in the workplace where unwanted jealousy towards your peers can occur. When someone is getting more recognition than you are and howthat person’s “moment of failure” no matter how small makes you rejoice for some reason, thinking you’ve won or achieved something. It’s totally twisted thinking and only proves how more of a loser and undeserving of anything you really are.

Not all of us excel at everything so always aim to be a better version of who you are now and refrain from comparing yourself from others too much. We all have innate talents we and others can be proud of. Just work hard and be happy ❤

FEB Day 15 : The movie you tell your friends to see.

Ok I’m stuck! As much as I love watching movies, there isn’t a particular “movie” that I feel the need to tell my friends to see, because honestly we all happen to like the same type of movies and they almost always watch them before I even did.

Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, White Chicks (if you’re looking for comedy), Star Wars Trilogy (I’m talking about IV, V, VI), Pirates of the Carribean etc – all these I would recommend to everyone.

However, If you’re going to ask me what movies that are “currently showing” in the cinemas that I would like my friends to watch (even if some of them already did) then I can name a few.

Return of Xander Cage xXx

Welcoming back Xander Cage! Donnie Yen’s fight scene kicks ass!

Resident Evil (Final Chapter)

Giving me palpitations since 2002.

John Wick 2

Haven’t watched this yet actually, but I’m going to. 😀

Friends, please watch all these movies. Not only are they action-packed and have very cool fight scenes, all three have the very gorgeous Ruby Rose as well. And yes I’m promoting them because of Ruby Rose. Ha! ❤

FEB Day 11 : Three Favorite Book Characters

Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy

I adore Lizzy and Mr. Darcy. They are for me the perfect couple despite each other’s faults. It might seem that they won’t end up together but they did and I was pleased. True love does find a way to bring two hearts meant for  each other.

eb

Elizabeth Bennet, one of the two central characters in Pride and Prejudice is regarded as one of Jane Austen’s “most admirable and endearing heroines” and I could not agree more.  I adored her character for the simple fact that she’s a woman with a mind of her own. I liked her character because of how I find her relatable plus I love that she’s a well-read person who is full of wit and intelligence.

Mr. Darcy, on the other hand, is the other half of Pride and Prejudice’s central character. He is the epitome of a “aloof, romantic hero”, which made him my Ideal Man for years. I was really rooting for him to end up with Elizabeth and was really happy when they did. I had so much feels every time these two characters appear in every chapter. Anyways, they certainly both are on top of my favorites list.

Hermione Granger

hemione

Hermione is one of the protagonist of the Harry Potter books. Like Elizabeth Bennet, she too loves to read. Already, I’m giving her 100 points just for that reason. Her extensive knowledge of different subjects has helped her, Harry and Ron in getting out of sticky situations. Her logical mind and upright behaviour, may have annoyed some characters in the books, but she’s a perfect know-it-all and I love her for it.

FEB Day 10 : Your Favorite Book

The hardest question I’ve had so far.

I don’t have a favorite book. I love too many books for me to pick just one. I could name a few books that inspired me, books that made me laugh, books that intrigued me, but I’ve yet to find that one book to rule them all (Lord of the Rings anyone? Heh!). So I’m sorry, but I cannot answer this question. Instead, I am going to recommend some books I’ve read that holds a certain meaning for me – made me laugh, made me cry, made me think etc.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

alchemist

I love this book because of its deep message about following our own dreams and listening to our hearts. I’ve read this one in college and I’ve never forgotten its message. I would love to give an in-depth explanation of the story, but that won’t be fun. I really recommend that you all read it. One of my favorite books from Paulo Coelho.

Harry Potter Books by J.K. Rowling

Come on! Who could ever forget the Boy who Lived? These are the most magical books I’ve ever read. Everything about it – the plot, the characters, the covers – is perfection. Though the central theme of the story is death (according to J.K.Rowling), it still talks of loyalty, friendship and of course, LOVE which is said to be the most powerful magic there is. I just love these books to pieces! Or maybe I’m just biased because I’m such a Potter Fan! ❤

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

pp

Honestly, I’ve only read a few classical books, and one of them was Pride and Prejudice. It was also the first classical book I’ve ever read. I think I was 15 when saw this book in our school library and just thought I’d give it a try. It was a spur of the moment decision and I was glad I did because I really fell in love with the story. It certainly introduced me to my first ever book character crush one of the most arrogantly dreamy characters there is – Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes by Edith Hamilton

myth

At one point in my life, I’ve become OBSESSED with this book! You have no idea how much. After reading this book, I’ve done research for every god and goddess there is. This book talks of Greek mythology, but I’ve extended my obsession to the Roman, Egyptian, and Norse mythology. I’ve become a total nerd for ancient mythology. They have such amazing stories and explanations to everything, like why the Sunflower follows the sun, and why there’s winter and spring. So many fascinating stories. Might be why I also like reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Anyway, the sun god, Apollo, is my all-time favorite god. He’s both Greek and Roman. ❤

Master of the Game by Sydney Sheldon

master

I don’t read thick novels in high school because of the simple fact that I feel I won’t be able to finish them. Plus, like I’ve mentioned before, I only read Sweet Valley High which are light reads. So imagine how out of nowhere I’m suddenly reading a Sydney Sheldon novel at 14 years of age. And I am so grateful I did, because this is the first book that made me start reading thick novels. It’s basically the story spanning four generations of lives in the MacGregor/Blackwell family.

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

angels

Dan Brown became such a controversial author after releasing his novel The Da Vinci Code. However, I think he’s a great author because I happen to have read all his released novels and enjoyed most of them – The Lost Symbol One was not as good as the others. Anyway, my favorite was his first novel, Angels and Demons, where the story focuses on the secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati. It’s a suspenseful novel that kept me wide awake all night. One of those books that you just can’t put down until you get to the end.

———–0000000000———–0000000000————0000000000———-0000000000———–

Oooookkkaaaayyy!!!! I’m stopping right here and right now before this post becomes a novel. And those are just a few of the many, many books that I love.
